Artist Statement

The majority of my paintings strive to explore our relationship with the natural world, as well as natural processes and what a landscape painting strives to represent. My abstractions, inspirations and ideas come from experiencing and exploring landscapes and wild areas throughout the world.

These works arise from a desire to capture movement and form within basic compositions and patterns, exploring the interplay between light, landscape, natural process and abstraction.

My paintings explore the interrelation between our ideals of the landscape as rooted in color, both random and fabricated order, as well as the landscapes that emerge within the individual cells composing each painting. These paintings are my interpretation of particular places and experiences. In abstracting from the landscape, I strive to capture the underlying visual impact and feeling of a place, and my interpretation of why that place moment or detail is important.
